A dark spot sat near the edge of a yellow lily petal, small enough to lose among all that colour, yet distinct from the denser markings nearer the centre. They were not scattered evenly. Some sat alone on broad stretches of yellow, while others gathered into denser lines where the petals folded inward. The brightness of the lily could easily overshadow those differences, especially where the yellow was strongest. The colour became less dominant, and the surface began to break into marks, edges and narrow changes from yellow into deeper orange.

Toward the centre, the markings became more closely packed. Each petal bent differently, so the same pattern disappeared around a curve and returned somewhere else. The long stamens extended well below the bloom. Their thin yellow-green filaments stretched well beyond the petals before ending in dark tips, changing from something almost threadlike into a much heavier shape at the end. Beside the broad folds of the flower, those narrow structures looked almost too fine to belong to the same plant. Each filament made an almost uninterrupted curve from its base to its dark tip, a contrast to the broken pattern across the petals.

The pattern was irregular even within a single petal. A petal that looked smoothly yellow from farther away carried tiny changes along its surface: darker flecks, a softening edge, a shallow ridge where it curled back. On another fold, the spots crowded together and then thinned out abruptly. Some marks were neat and oval; others stretched into uneven dashes as the petal bent away. Along one outer edge, a fine fringe caught the light and briefly became more noticeable than the larger markings beside it. The fringe was much less conspicuous than the spots, but it gave the smooth-looking rim a different texture. Between the petals, narrow gaps opened onto deeper orange near the centre.

The unopened bud beside the flower tightened all of that detail into a single narrow form. Long ridges ran down its surface, and the orange-yellow colour stayed enclosed instead of breaking into broad spotted petals. Beside that closed form, the open lily spread in several directions: petals rolled away from the centre, stamens dropped below them, and the dark markings spread across the exposed surfaces. The bud held a continuous line from its base to its tip. On the open flower, even a short stretch of yellow was interrupted by spots, folds or the curl of an edge.
